Volunteers Needed…Are You the Next Commissioner or Committee Member?

Park and Activities Commission

There is currently one vacancy on the Park & Activities Commission. The Park and Activities (P&A) Commission serves in an advisory role to the City Council in matters pertinent to the City’s extensive system of parks, trails, and open spaces. The P&A Commission also helps organize the annual City Celebration, The Hills Are Alive 10K/5K Run-5K Walk, Tracy Austin Doubles Tennis Tournament, and serves as the Board of Directors for the Pepper Tree Foundation.  Members of the P&A Commission serve staggered two-year terms.

Environmental Advisory Committee

There is currently one vacancy on the Environmental Advisory Committee. The Environmental Advisory Committee advises the City Council in the development of policies and programs that address issues of environmental concern, such as climate change, energy efficiency and conservation. Meetings will be held quarterly beginning in January 2019. 

Traffic and Safety Committee

There is currently one vacancy on the Traffic and Safety Committee. The Traffic and Safety Committee reviews and advises the City Council on issues related to traffic and community safety regulations, including parking and speed restrictions, traffic control signs and signals, traffic calming, and school crossings. Meetings will be held quarterly beginning in 2019.


Upon recommendation of the Mayor and appointment by the City Council, both the Environmental Advisory Committee and Traffic and Safety Committee are nine-member boards, which includes representatives from City Council, Planning Commission and Park and Activities Commission as well as six at-large residents.  Members of the Committees are volunteers that serve a one-year term.  In all cases the Committees’ actions are subject to review and final approval by the City Council.

Open to Rolling Hills Estates residents only.  Interested individuals are invited to submit an application (Application-PDF) for City Council consideration to HeidiL@RollingHillsEstatesCA.gov. Apply by Monday, October 29.
